Prints and Posters can be finished with lamination or mounted to a substrate with matte, luster or gloss finish. Laminating adds protection from sun damage, stains, smudges and fingerprints. Substrates include (but are not limited to) foamcore, gatorboard, sintra, styrene, plex, coroplast, and alumilite.
Foamcore
Lightweight. Economical for short-term use but is not water resistant. White is most common. Best for framing, short-to-mid-term indoor signs and displays.
Gatorfoam or Gatorboard
Lightweight. Durable. Economical. Tougher and more warp resistant than foamcore in general but the edges chip easily if banged. Available in black or white. Best for Interior signs, displays and exhibits.
Sintra/PVC
Excellent resistance to warp and corner dent. Durable. Available in a variety of colors, 1mm to 10 mm. In thicknesses of 3mm and over, it is stiff enough for small sizes, but becomes more flexible as sizes increase. All plastic with nice matte finish, however PVC boards are porous and therefore not waterproof. They freeze and become brittle outdoors. Best for Interior signs, trade show exhibits, displays, specialty graphics, POP.
Styrene
Thin commodity sheet, lightweight, flexible and inexpensive. Best for transit graphics, outdoor signs, sign frame inserts, curved or conformable signs.
Plex
Clear plastic panel in thicknesses 1/8" and 1/4", generally used for backlight applications. Best for Interior backlit, window displays
Coroplast
Brand name for leading fluted polypropylene board. Looks like plastic corrugated paper. Inexpensive, not smooth and tough to cut. Clear plastic panel in thicknesses from 1/16" to 1/2", generally used for backlight applications. Best for Transit and real estate signs.
Alumilite
Metal to CPA core panels. Thin, light, smooth and rigid .015 aluminum on two faces minimizes warping. A 4' x 8' sheet of Alumilite weighs only 22 lbs. but is stronger than .080 aluminum. Long lasting. Best for Long term Interior or exterior signs that are resistant to weather.
